Low have announced the cancellation of August tour dates in Europe and the UK amid vocalist-drummer Mimi Parker's battle with ovarian cancer.
"As some of you know, Mimi has been fighting cancer," the duo wrote in a statement. "Recent developments and changes in treatment have made extensive travel impossible at this time. Our hope is that she will respond to new treatments and be able to play the shows we have scheduled for the fall, including the Water is Life festival in Duluth on September 4."
Earlier this year, Parker revealed on the SHEROES Radio podcast how she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in December of 2020. In a subsequent interview with The Great Northern, she shared, "It's a kick in the head. You have to really face your own mortality. I mean, we always do that anyway, but yeah, you really face it. You are like, 'well, what do I do with the time I have left if it's just going to be a short time?'
"I tend to be a pretty positive person in general," Parker continued. "I mean, I had some extreme anxiety and despair for maybe a month, just a shock. But after that, I bounced back and at this point the eternal perspective, it's a very Mormon term, but realizing and hoping that maybe this isn't it and there's something after, and these experiences that we have are just there to teach us humility and compassion and sympathy."
Low, the duo of Parker and Alan Sparhawk, delivered 13th studio album HEY WHAT last year. The LP was among Exclaim!'s Best Albums of 2021, while it also had a single land among the Best Songs of 2021.
In September, Low are due to tour the US alongside Death Cab for Cutie. Find the duo's current tour schedule here, and complete statement below.
