As previously reported, Toronto-based teacher-turned-songwriter Lou Canon will release her self-titled debut album next month via Hardwood/Universal. The disc includes nine originals, plus, to sweeten the deal, a cover of the Cure's "Close to Me."
While the "Close to Me" original fell on the sunnier side of the goth rock band's oeuvre, Canon's take stays true the 1985 version while giving it an unsettling edge by overlaying the track with a patchwork of breaths and gasps, as well as orchestral flourishes.
It's a worthy cover version for sure, and you download it here.
As for Canon's full-length, that's due digitally on May 10 and physically on July 12.
