Rumours of new material from UK indie rock troupe the Libertines have been swirling about since a summertime reunion show and an ensuing string of European tour dates. Now, it looks as if the likely lads are officially returning to the recording studio having penned a deal with Virgin EMI.
The record deal was signed in Thailand (pictured above), where Doherty is currently in rehab.
"I don't know what to say, I'm so happy," Doherty said in a press release [via Pitchfork]. "It was a beautiful day."
Co-frontman Carl Barât added, "After everything we have been through the Albion sails on course again. I couldn't be more excited."
The new album will be the band's third studio LP and follows their debut Up the Bracket and 2004's self-titled effort. The group disbanded towards the end of recording The Libertines — with Doherty's substance abuse largely cited as the reason— but have reunited for live appearances since.
The forthcoming record is expected to arrive next year.
