Rootsy Vancouver Island songwriter Layton Kramer is releasing a new album, Dear Apathy, on April 16 via Oscar St. Records. Ahead of the wide release date, Exclaim! has the premiere of the entire thing.
The nine-song psych-country album was recorded between 2018 and 2020, both at Kramer's house in Victoria and at the Hive Studios. It was produced by Colin Stewart (Dan Mangan, the New Pornographers) and features appearances from Kathryn Calder (who runs Oscar St. Records), Jen Severtson of Peach Pyramid and others.
As you'll hear, the record brings trippy, dreamy sonic weirdness to a twangy palette of vintage Americana and classic garage pop.
"We are living in a strange, mundane world full of apathy, which has taken over parts of my life," Kramer said in a statement. "Choosing to recognize this and act on it is what I intended to highlight with this record."
