After a history of working with some of the most highly regarded labels in dance music, it's only fitting that Peter Kersten returns to his trusted Dial imprint for his third LP. It's the label he helped found and the project largely responsible for leveraging his status as a house music icon. Lawrence has been a relatively transient figure, by North American standards, but his discography stands astutely with the genre's finest. Kersten's genuine aversion to conformity has left a trail of timeless productions behind him and his latest record follows in much the same vein. Films & Windows isn't a predictable listen though; it presents an idiosyncratic side of Lawrence we've rarely been privy to. The album is full of eerie discord, dizzying environs and impervious rhythms, but for every strange turn an affable and familiar air fills the room. Many of the tracks blossom in their final moments, as subtle arcs transform perceived disarray into brilliant, canorous synergy. It's Kersten's most challenging body of work to date, but also a testament to his ability to push a steadfast genre into stimulating new territory.
