Montreal-born alt-pop singer-songwriter Laraw has announced her debut album, previewed today by new single "September."
Quarter Life Crisis arrives May 3 through Bravo musique. It follows a steady stream of singles Laraw has been releasing since 2019, including "This Is How I Lost My Friends" and "Running with Scissors."
Recording the album saw the artist split her time between Montreal and Toronto, gradually transforming her journal entries into songs capturing the confusion and doubt of being in your twenties.
“I had absolutely no idea what I was doing," Laraw admitted in a statement. "I was running from my past with nowhere to go. I laughed, I cried, I dated, I messed up a lot. It’s my lesson of love, life, and forgiveness."
Co-written with Derek Hoffman, who also produced and mixed the track, "September" encapsulates this general theme. With grungy distortion smearing glassy synths, Laraw melancholically reflects on the days in the rearview, second-guessing every second and ultimately decided that she needs to lend herself some forgiveness.
