Labyrinth

Timeless Crime

BY Kevin Stewart-PankoPublished Dec 1, 1999

Italy's Labyrinth is in direct opposition to everything currently popular in metal. While keyboards do play a large part in Labyrinth din, Andrew McPaul’s finger tinkling does not simply mirror the classy speed metal riffing with Casio generated faux symphonies. The keys definitely take a life of their own and often take the form of classical runs or baroque counterpoints. Labyrinth specialise in souped-up power/speed metal with catchy riffing, stratospheric vocalising and choruses that take no prisoners. There are no hints of grind, jazz, noise or Sabbath. It's all longhaired, basketball-boot metal with prodigious musicianship and awesome songwriting.
