Kristian North Announces New Album 'Passion Play,' Shares "Fantasy"

Kristian North — former frontman of scuzzy freak-rockers Babysitter — is back with new solo material today, in the form of a single titled "Fantasy." The song appears on the artist's forthcoming album Passion Play, which arrives on April 30 via Montreal's Mothland.

"Fantasy" comes with its own Phil Osborne-directed video, which you can watch down below.

"Kristian brought up the idea of capturing the times we are in," Osborne said in a statement. "With the curfew in mind, we cooked up a little dystopian sci-fi style intro, a bit of dark humour which quickly transitions to a one-man disco party."

Drawing inspiration from the likes of Sparks, George Michael and Roxy Music, the track finds North's channelling disco, groove and pop sensibilities, in harmony with his most analogue record to date.

"I was kind of humming the chorus in my head and then I watched [Jacques Demy's] Donkey Skin and it all clicked. There's something to be said about reality there but mostly it's just candy, melodrama, fairy tales," the artist said.

Passion Play was produced by Renny Wilson and mastered by Harris Newman. The album marks North's follow-up to 2018's The Last Rock'n'Roll Record.
