While it was initially thought that New Order would be rerecording their classic "World in Motion" for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, it's now been revealed that the soccer bigwigs have enlisted Somalian-Canadian rapper K'Naan to soundtrack next year's games.
As the CBC points out, the World Cup committee selected K'Naan's "Wavin' Flag" to be the official anthem of the 2010 tournament. The track originally appeared on this year's Troubadour album, and has been remixed to "Wavin' Flag: The Celebration Mix" for the event. It will be used throughout the tournament, from TV spots to soundtracking all of this year's FIFA events.
Correction: "Wavin' Flag" was named the official anthem for the World Cup trophy tour, not the 2010 tournament as a whole.
These aren't the only big plans for K'Naan either. NME reports that he'll be making an appearance on an upcoming EP from Brit rock icons Keane. The eight-track disc is called The Night Train EP, and is due for release in May.
