King Kooba

NuFoundFunk

BY Noel DixPublished Nov 1, 2000

Charlie Tate and DJ Shuff, the pair behind King Kooba, run all over the board with various styles on their latest release. Hip-hop, jazz, and R&B are just some of the ingredients thrown into the musical tossed-salad that is NuFoundFunk, though they seem to want us to call it "future funk." The only catch is that King Kooba aren't exactly breaking new ground with this offering and it is far from being strictly a funk record. In fact, this album succeeds when it delivers slow-tempo cuts such as the Esthero-like "Feel The Colour" and the hip-hop induced "Fooling Myself," rather than the up-beat tracks, which are best avoided.
