Kikagaku Moyo have announced their indefinite hiatus alongside news of a final album, arriving via Guruguru Brain in May 2022, and a farewell tour kicking off during the same month.
The Tokyo psychedelic outfit thanked fans for their "continuous support" and warned that "there will be no next time" to catch them in concert after the farewell tour.
"After much discussion between the five of us at the end of last year, we have decided to go on an indefinite hiatus after 2022. This means 2022 will be our last year as Kikagaku Moyo," the band wrote in a statement.
The continued:
We have come to the conclusion that because we have truly achieved our core mission as a band, we would love to end this project on the highest note possible. Since first starting as a music collective on the streets of Tokyo in 2012, we never, ever imagined being able to play all over the world for our amazing audiences. It is all because of you that this was ever possible...and to this we are eternally grateful.
The group's upcoming tour will open with a pair of Canadian dates — Toronto's Lee's Palace on May 11 and Montreal's La Tulipe on the 12th — before they head off on a North American run for the remainder of the month. They've also scheduled a string of dates in Europe for June, the final night of which will take place at London's Clapham Grand on June 26.
Tickets for the trek will go on sale January 21 here.
Further details of Kikagaku Moyo's final recording are forthcoming. Their most recent effort was 2021's Deep Fried Grandeur.
