Kid 606

PS I Love You

BY Cam LindsayPublished May 1, 2001

No kids, there is nothing wrong with your stereo or the CD. Kid 606 is primarily known for his talents of messing about with a computer and rightfully so. PS I Love You is a maniacal blend of blips and clicks, cut and pasted to confuse the hell out of an unsuspecting listener. Changing the mood a bit on this record, the ambience is ambient. Almost too mellow at times to be one of his records, the music really is a treat to listen to. "Whereweleftoff" takes some of the most irritating and ear piercing pitches and amalgamates them into a mosaic of beats. "Twirl" never sounds fully complete through its six minutes, as a flamenco guitar may or may not have been strummed and then smashed to pieces to orchestrate the sound. The absolute gem of the album has to be "Sometimes" with its continuous loop of Eno-esque ambience that never stops. He may not suffer or spend aeons recording these records, but Kid 606 deserves the utmost respect for pulling something this simple off so wonderfully.
