Vietnam has evolved some of the most mysterious and sensuous communal musical instruments in the world. The trippy sounds of the dan bau transform evocative performances like “Spirit of Vietnam,” “Girl of the Forest,” “Village Dances” and the atmospheric love song “On the Bamboo Bridge” into haunting music. Such exotic instrumentation is matched by the sophistication of the song forms.
