Kanye West, Bon Iver, Radiohead Lead Grammy Nominees

BY Alex HudsonPublished Dec 1, 2011

Canada had a strong showing at last year's Grammy Awards thanks to Arcade Fire, who caused confusion among some viewers when they took home the Album of the Year award. Well, this year's list of nominees isn't nearly as Canada-friendly, but there are still some stellar acts mixed in among the less-than-awesome ones.

Unsurprisingly, Kanye West netted a slew of nominations with his solo album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and his Jay-Z collaboration Watch the Throne. These two albums mean that he's nominated twice in the major categories Best Rap Album and Best Rap Song ("All of the Lights" on the solo front, "Otis" with Jay-Z). "All of the Lights" is also up for Song of the Year.

On the indie front, Bon Iver scored nominations for Best New Artist, Record of the Year ("Holocene"), Song of the Year (again, "Holocene") and Best Alternative Album (Bon Iver). Just like with Arcade Fire last year, we can imagine the Who Is Bon Iver??!!? campaigns already.

Other noteworthy nominations include Radiohead (Best Alternative Album, Best Rock Song), Deadmau5 (Best Dance/Electronica Album), Wilco (Best Rock Album), My Morning Jacket (Best Alternative Album), Lil Wayne (Best Rap Album), the Decemberists (Best Rock Song), and Death Cab for Cutie (Best Alternative). Of course, Adele is up for practically everything.
