After sharing a pair of new singles earlier this year, Kalle Mattson has now revealed the details behind a forthcoming studio album.
Titled Youth, Mattson's latest will arrive September 7. Ten tracks in length, the album follows 2015's Avalanche and is said to be a "coming of age record about innocence lost, promises denied, and the purgatory of one's mid-20s."
"People latched on to my last album because there was a story," he said in a statement. "Writing in a box was exciting and interesting to me: here's a theme, so how far can you go with it, and how can you make it seem like a cohesive piece?"
Despite demoing all the songs with an acoustic guitar, Mattson wrote Youth with the motto of "folk is dead," with producer Colin Munroe helping to shift the songwriter's focus to keyboards and drum machines. A fitting album trailer, featuring a flaming acoustic guitar, can be found below.
With that in mind, Youth is pegged as a marriage of Mattson's folk roots with these machines. A press release notes that a version of the record made entirely with synths and drum machines was shelved.
Alongside the announcement, Mattson has also mapped out a run of Canadian tour dates, set to kick off in Winnipeg on September 19. Read through the tracklist for Youth to find a complete itinerary below.
