Justin Bieber Files to Dismiss $20 Million Defamation Lawsuit over Sexual Assault Claims

Allegations of two separate assaults — which reportedly took place in 2014 and 2015 — came from a pair of Twitter users in 2020

Timbiebs incendiary Justin Bieber has decided to drop his $20 million defamation lawsuit against the two Twitter users who accused him of sexual assault in 2020.

A Friday (March 18) filing in a Los Angeles court saw Bieber's attorneys move to voluntarily dismiss the case, one telling Billboard that the artist had "decided to move on."

Bieber filed the defamation suit in June 2020, just days after two separate allegations of sexual assault (that reportedly took place in 2014 and 2015, respectively) surfaced on the social media platform. The pop star called the allegations "factually impossible."
The accusers were Khadidja Djibrine (@ItsnotKadi) and a "Jane Doe" known only as Danielle (@danielleglvn — an account that no longer exists). On June 20, 2020, the latter tweeted that she had been sexually assaulted by Bieber at a hotel room in Austin, TX, after his surprise performance at SXSW in March of 2014. In support of her allegation, Djibrine took to Twitter the same day to share an accusation of her own: she claimed that the musician had sexually assaulted her in a New York City hotel room in March 2015.

Both claims were refuted by Bieber's legal representation, with clear evidence that he'd spent the night with then-girlfriend Selena Gomez at a rental property in Austin in 2014, and was at a Met Gala after-party in New York the next year at the time of the alleged incident.

"It is abundantly clear that these two individuals are trying to capitalize on the climate of fear permeating the entertainment industry, Hollywood and corporate America, whereby it is open season for anyone to make any claim (no matter how vile, unsupported and provably false) about anyone without consequence," the pop star's lawyers wrote in the original defamation document.

There was little movement in the case after it was filed, with Danielle never having been located. In February, reps for both Djibrine and the singer-songwriter told the court that mediation had not been successful in reaching a settlement. A trial had tentatively been scheduled for May.

Clearly, Bieber has better things to do than pursue this case: he's teamed up with the Toronto Maple Leafs on a jersey design and BeaverTails is also vying for a collab.
