Juliette And The Licks

Four on the Floor

Juliette Lewis is hot shit! No, for real; she’s really sexy, so it’s easy to forgive the fact that her rock’n’roll is so generic, especially since her lusty live performances are so god damn enjoyable! Her past albums have been rather typical: energetic rock with power chords and fist-pumping beats. Well, she’s refined her sound and added some new elements, which is exactly what her career needed, no matter how toned her abs are. Although still slightly unoriginal, "Hot Kiss” is a radio-ready, balls-out anthem in the vein of AC/DC and the psychobilly-enhanced intro fits her poignant attitude effectively. You’d be a fool to not notice the dazzling drum work on each cut and when you flip open the album booklet, it’ll all make sense: Dave Grohl is a new member of her backing band and things couldn’t fit better! She tries her hand at melody bursting girly blues rock on "Death of a Whore,” which is a golden cut that begs to differ with the thought that Juliette is simply a pretty face. "Get Up” will confront these notions head on. Juliette deserves more credit and with an album this gutsy, she’ll hopefully receive it! Sari Delmar
