Less flamboyant than her previous output with the Licks, Terra Incognita by cult favourite Juliette Lewis reveals an artier, more pensive side to the actress-turned-singer. To be precise, she's still got that bluesy hollering thing going on but this time it's a little more cultivated than the showy, dramatic vibe of albums past. Producer Omar Rodriguez-Lopez (of the Mars Volta) throws in a little dub vibe here (the psychedelic "Female Persecution") and a little grinding blues there ("Hard Lovin' Woman"), lending a commercial edge to what's essentially an album based on nostalgia.
