Kanye West Was a Big Baby About His Wardrobe in 'Anchorman 2,' Judd Apatow Says

There's no denying that Kanye West takes himself super seriously, but his taste in comedy has always suggested a lighter side. After all, this is a dude who sampled Blades of Glory and almost started his own version of Curb Your Enthusiasm. According to Judd Apatow, however, Kanye still takes himself way too seriously when he's working in comedy.

Over the weekend, Apatow performed a special charity standup set at Los Angeles's Regent Theater. In his performance, he touched on West's diva-like behaviour while shooting his brief Anchorman 2 cameo.

According to The Wrap, Apatow recalled an assistant saying to him, "Go talk to Kanye. There's an issue with his outfit."

For his brief cameo, Kanye was meant to play an MTV VJ in a Michael Jackson-themed leather jacket. Ever the fussy dresser, however, Kanye was not stoked on the wardrobe choice.

"Kanye says there's a problem with his costume: 'Not good! The problem is this red jacket is like a first-instinct idea. Like the first thing you thought of, then you went on Google Images, and the first thing that came up, that's why you went with!'" Apatow recalled. "Which is what we did."

Apatow said Kanye's solution was to look up "one thousand images" on Google Images to determine the perfect jacket. "The whole time Kim Kardashian never looks up from her phone. Two hours later, he walks out of his trailer wearing the red jacket we picked and goes, 'I guess this is fine.'"

Apatow added that West also tested some Yeezus material on him while they were on set with director Adam McKay.

"Me and Adam are talking to him, and he's trying to explain his new album," Apatow recalled. "He goes, 'I don't know if I want to call it 'I Am God' or 'I Am Jesus.' He's not joking. He doesn't know if he's more like God or Jesus. He's trying to explain the concept… and he goes, let me just rap some of it for you so you understand."
