Though British metal mainstays Judas Priest won't officially unveil their new Redeemer of Souls album until July 8, the band are giving up a philosophical preview of the set's razor-sharp "Sword of Damocles."
The teaser video behind the track first finds frontman Rob Halford explaining that the song is indeed based on the story of Damocles trading places with Dionysius to sit amongst many riches but underneath a dangerously dangling sword, with the allegory relating to the burden of power, among other things. Following the description, we're treated to a snippet of old-style guitar chugging, 3/4 drum work and Halford's familiar, dramatic and half-operatic vocals.
You can check it out for yourself down below.
As previously reported, Redeemer of Souls arrives July 8 via Epic Records.
