Jon Epworth

'Soul Mange' (album stream)

BY Scott A. GrayPublished Dec 15, 2011

Soul-belting art rocker Jon Epworth has given Exclaim! an exclusive stream of his new Stax Records-inspired EP, Soul Mange, out digitally today (December 15) via Bandcamp. The seven songs were written, performed, recorded, mixed and mastered by the talented multi-instrumentalist with the sonic goal of referencing the sound of a classic recording dubbed onto a well-worn cassette.

In addition to the stream below, you can watch Epworth tear it up in the studio in the video for album highlight "Happening" at the bottom of the page. It will be worth wiping the dirt off your jaw after it hits the floor.

Besides giving us the first listen to the funky, soulful, quirk-filled EP, Epworth is offering Exclaim! readers the chance to win a free download of the album and a custom-made T-shirt. The goodies will go to the first person who can answer, "From what literary work did Epworth borrow the term Soul Mange?"

If you think you know the answer, post your guess in the comment field on our Facebook page. Get inspired to search for the obscure reference by listening to Soul Mange below.
