Last we heard from former Dean Malenkos drummer Jon Epworth (of Failure Epics and Jon Epworth & The Improvements fame), he was belting out the hits on his Stax Records-inspired EP, Soul Mange. But for his newest album, Shop Sounds, Epworth looked elsewhere for inspiration, drawing influence primarily from Queens of the Stone Age's recent …Like Clockwork LP. Find out if his change in style paid off by streaming the album in full on Exclaim.ca.
Recorded entirely in Epworth's warehouse studio space, the album has the ramshackle feel of early-QOTSA, while retaining the soul of, well, later QOTSA.
"I can't tell if it's the strangest album I've made, or the most straight-forward," Epworth says about the new album. "I suppose I live in a bubble where straight-forward is weird."
