John Prine's tour itinerary behind last year's The Tree of Forgiveness was set to bring him to Canada next month. Now, all of the songwriter's upcoming live dates have been postponed.

In a statement shared on Instagram, Prine's family and label home Oh Boy Records revealed Prine will postpone eight shows total in the wake of surgery to mitigate the risk of a stroke. The artist was set to perform in Vancouver, Banff, Calgary and Edmonton in early August.

"In consultation with his doctors, John has been advised that he has an elevated risk for a stroke," the statement reads. "He will have surgery this week to insert a stent which will remedy the issue. He looks forward to a full and speedy recovery. Thank you for your support and understanding."

Two of the affected dates have already been rescheduled. Prine's performance at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, CO, has been moved to September 18 of this year, while his performance at the Edmonton Folk Festival was postponed until August 11, 2020.
