He is widely known as one of the best radio DJs of all-time, and now the late, great John Peel will have that legacy put onto a four-CD set entitled Kats Karavan.

Featuring selections from Peel's legendary BBC Peel Sessions radio program, as well as his Festive 50 countdowns, the four-disc collection will feature such acts as Small Faces, Thin Lizzy, Aswad, the Damned, Medicine Head, the Jam, the Slits, Funboy Five, the Cure, Linton Kwesi Johnson, That Petrol Emotion, Extreme Noise Terror, Ivor Cutler, Mercury Rev, Milo, Bloc Party and more, according to Vent Vox .

The collection, to be released on October 26 in the UK, includes material spanning Peel's 40-plus years in radio, right up until his death in 2004.

Also included are some rare tracks, most notably a version of Free's "Walk in My Shadow," which was previously thought to be lost in the archives until the BBC recently unearthed it on an old reel-to-reel tape. The release of the track will be the first time it's been heard by the public since Peel's original radio broadcast of the track. One of Peel's personal favourites, the Misunderstood, are featured on the collection as well. The mid-'60s psychedelic rock band from Riverside, CA were the only band Peel ever managed.

Peel himself shows up doing backing vocals on an Altered Images cover of Neil Diamond's "Song Sung Blue," as well as provides his short radio show audio clips interspersed throughout the CD set.

Finally, Kats Karavan comes with liner notes and artwork that highlight rare photographs and testimonials from various bands and songwriters on Peel's indisputable influence on the underground music scene.
