The debut album by John Dufilho features lo-fi pop with all instruments played and recorded by the Deathray Davies singer/songwriter. His material ranges from stark acoustic tunes to rumbling, fuzz-injected songs. On some of the disc, cheap drum machines and other toys sound on the verge of collapse and you can almost picture Dufilho racing to record before his gear falls apart in his hands. While the looseness of some of the songs detracts from their quality, Dufilho has a solid talent at crafting hooks, forming an underlying melodic current that runs throughout his work.
