It's been well over three years since Joanna Newsom released her last album, Have One on Me, but she's stayed on our radar thanks a cameo on Portlandia, advertising appearances and soundtrack contributions. Now, the harp-toting songwriter has expanded her portfolio once again by evidently joining the cast of Paul Thomas Anderson's latest film.
The film is called Inherent Vice, and The Playlist notes that the star-studded ensemble includes Joaquin Phoenix, Benicio Del Toro, Owen Wilson, Reese Witherspoon, Josh Brolin, Martin Short, Jena Malone and possibly Sean Penn, among others.
Details of Newsom's involvement are still up in the air, but she's been spotted on set in Los Angeles, where filming has been underway for a couple of months. You can see photos of her decked out like a hippie over at Eyeprime.
This latest flick from Anderson — whose past films include There Will Be Blood, Boogie Nights, Punch-Drunk Love and Magnolia — is based on a 2009 novel by Thomas Pynchon. It's set in Los Angeles at the dawn of the '70s and is about a pothead detective investigating the kidnapping of an ex-girlfriend.
In related news, Anderson recently directed a music video for Fiona Apple.
