Dock rock legend Jimmy Buffett passed away at age 76 from skin cancer just last week — but before his death, he had finished work on a new album. His estate has revealed plans to release the LP posthumously, and three songs have already been shared: "My Gummie Just Kicked In," "Bubbles Up" and "Like My Dog."
Named for the way his grandfather would describe a good nap, Equal Strain on All Parts is due November 3 on Mailboat Records. It follows the pair of records Buffett released in 2020, Life on the Flip Side and Songs You Don't Know by Heart.
The posthumous release features guest contributions from Paul McCartney, Emmylou Harris, Angelique Kidjo and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. McCartney plays bass on the silly rocker "My Gummie Just Kicked In," which Buffett was apparently inspired to write by the former Beatle's wife's explanation for why she lost her balance standing up from the table at a dinner party.
"I told him that not only was the song great but the vocal was probably the best I've heard him sing ever," McCartney added in a press release of the warmhearted ballad "Bubbles Up." Meanwhile, the reggae-influenced "Like My Dog" sees Buffett sing about a woman who tells him she wants him to love him like her dog does.
