Experimental busybody Justin K. Broadrick has been on a roll of late, from excellent releases under his Pale Sketcher moniker to an incredible mix he recently did for FACT. Somehow, through all that work he's found time to revisit the warm blanket of metallic shoegaze that is Jesu, with a new album announced for this spring.
The record is called Ascension and like his 2009 Opiate Sun EP, it will be released through Caldo Verde, the label operated by Mark Kozelek of Red House Painters/Sun Kil Moon.
According to a press release, "The layers of melodic, atmospheric guitars and keyboards on the ten tracks build relentlessly atop each other, creating a huge structure that seems to float or glide more like a weather pattern than a piece of music."
Ascension is the first proper Jesu LP since 2007's career-making Conqueror album. At this point, little else is known about the album except that it will be released on May 10.
