In the years following the 2015 terrorist attack on Paris music venue Le Bataclan, Eagles of Death Metal frontman Jesse Hughes has returned to theatre to commemorate the lives lost. However, a fender bender left him unable to make the trip for the third consecutive time.
Hughes explained his absence (en français) on Instagram earlier this week (November 13), sharing a photo of his badly cracked motorcycle helmet.
"On this day for the last three years, I was with my brothers and sisters in Paris, France and I planned for this year to be no different," he wrote. "I bought my ticket and I was ready to leave … But I took a ride on my bike and I was hit from behind and thrown headfirst into the car in front of me."
Hughes continued, saying he began feeling the effects of a head injury the day after the crash while heading to see Morrissey in San Diego. A trip to the ER revealed he had suffered serious whiplash, with doctors then telling him to avoid flying anywhere for five days.
"At the time, it seemed like reasonable logic," Hughes said of the doctors' orders. "Of course, I knew everyone would understand...but I made a mistake, I want to be there with you, I don't want to be here right now...I made a big mistake!"
Hughes urged readers, "if you see the mayor of Paris and the president of France, please give them a hug for me," adding, "I think I'm writing this in French because I really don't know what to do."
You can find Hughes' post below. He recently revealed a new EODM covers album named after an insult from Axl Rose.
