Texas-born singer-songwriter Jess Williamson has extended her touring plans in support of her brand new album Time Ain't Accidental, out today via Mexican Summer.
Having already completed the first leg of her North American tour in May — which included a stop at Tronoto's Monarch Tavern — Williamson will continue the trek tonight in Austin, TX. The artist has extended her tour plans through to September, and the new leg includes a lone Canadian stop in Vancouver on August 24.
The album sees Williamson finding her own strength and individuality after a breakup with her longtime partner and musical collaborator, who left her and their home in Los Angeles at the start of the pandemic. The album grapples with the anxiety, excitement, and disappointment of dating new people amidst a pandemic, and the mixture of isolation and liberation that comes with reclaiming your individuality.
Time Ain't Accidental is a huge directional shift from her previous albums, 2018's Cosmic Wink and 2020's Sorceress. The album is a revisiting of her roots in Texas and a reckoning of her current independent self, surrounded by the modern metropolis of Los Angeles. These two juxtaposed parts of herself are signified by the digital drum beats she programmed on her iPhone, paired with the old country-western instrumentation of banjos and steel drums.
The album's artwork featuring Williamson with a flash of lightning not far in the distance represents the notion that "supernatural forces are acting all around us, that we can trust that we will be in the right place at the right time."
