Jerry Leger never leaves fans waiting for too long between albums, and the busy Canadian songwriter is adding to his ever-expanding catalogue with an LP called Early Riser. Ahead of the record's release on April 22 through Latent Recordings, it's available to stream in full on Exclaim.ca.
The album was produced Michael Timmins of Cowboy Junkies. Although it's credited to Leger alone, he's joined by his usual band the Situation, along with guest players such as organist Jeff Heisholt (Burt Neilson Band, the Trews) and singers Tamara Lindeman (the Weather Station) and Ivy Mairi.
The results are organic and earthy, with rootsy arrangements that span upbeat blues rock ("Cashing In," "She Ain't My Woman and I Ain't No Woman's Man"), enigmatic minor-key cuts ("Factory Made," "Got Myself a-Thinkin'") and delicate downtempo numbers ("Nobody's Angel," "One More Bad Penny").
