Psychedelic rock luminary Roky Erickson will be celebrated with a new tribute album. May the Circle Remain Unbroken: A Tribute to Roky Erickson will arrive July 17 through Light in the Attic for Record Store Day.
The 12-song collection, which marks the first-ever posthumous collection for the 13th Floor Elevators member, features new recordings from Wilco's Jeff Tweedy, Margo Price, Gary Clark Jr. & Eve Monsees, Neko Case, the Black Angels, Ty Segall, Lucinda Williams, ZZ Top's Billy F Gibbons, Chelsea Wolfe, Brogan Bentley, Lynn Castle & Mark Lanegan, and Mosshart Sexton (Alison Mosshart & Charlie Sexton).
May the Circle Remain Unbroken was produced by Bill Bentley, who previously helmed 1990 Erickson tribute album Where the Pyramid Meets the Eye, along with associate producers Matt Sullivan (co-founder/co-owner of Light in the Attic Records) and Wyatt Bentley. The tribute LP was mastered by engineer John Baldwin.
While a CD version of the collection will arrive later this year, May the Circle Remain Unbroken will first arrive on vinyl as part of Record Store Day 2021. Pressed at RTI on clear/purple wax, the vinyl release is accompanied by a 16-page booklet with rare photos, liner notes by Bentley and a bonus RSD-only flexi disc featuring an unreleased track, titled "Love Hieroglyphics," performed by Erickson in the early '70s.
