Jarvis Cocker Preps Lyric Book

With Pulp currently playing reunion gigs, fans of the Britpop band are keeping their fingers crossed for some new tunes to pop up in the group's set lists. While Pulp have yet to announce any fresh material, lead singer Jarvis Cocker has revealed he's working on a book of lyrics.

Titled Mother, Brother, Lover: Selected Lyrics, the book will highlight the lyricist's long and lengthy career with selections no doubt culled from his Pulp days, as well as his solo work. The celebrated rocker is known for his self-deprecating lyrics, which mix highly erotic scenarios with the banality of everyday life. While it's unclear at the moment which songs will be in the book, just check the heartbreak and confusion of classics like "Underwear" or "Do You Remember the First Time?"

Speaking with The Quietus, Cocker dished on how he hit his stride once he focused on the minutiae of life rather than trying to craft something intentionally poignant. He also describes how his role as the lyricist came accidentally, saying, "It's not like you really want to write words, but if you're the singer, you've got to. That's how it happened to me,."

Mother, Brother, Lover: Selected Lyrics will be released this October by Faber & Faber.
