James Younger

'James Younger' (EP stream)

Now that Sun Wizard's Malcolm Jack is focusing on his paisley pop project Capitol 6, the Vancouver band's other songwriter James Younger has a lot of extra time on his hands. He hasn't been slacking off, however, and has been working on some solo tunes. Three of which were uploaded to Bandcamp today (September 26).

The trio of tunes don't necessarily stray too far from Sun Wizard's pop style, though both "Monday Morning" and "Simple Things" feature bright and boisterous double-team guitar leads and semi-shuffled backbeats that bring to mind both Thin Lizzy and the Strokes.

The final track, "Two of a Kind," meanwhile has Younger's road-worn croon snuggling up to acoustic strums and new country-ish six-string licks, while some "Moonlight Desires"-style synths soften the track even further.

No news has been delivered just yet if this is a digital-only release, or if this teases an upcoming album.
