Since Jaill added an extra consonant to their band name and signed with Sub Pop in 2009, the Milwaukee pop rock act have released one album, 2010's That's How We Burn. The group will follow it up on June 12 with Traps, and before the album arrives in stores, you can preview the entire thing here at Exclaim.ca.
Traps was recorded in frontman Vinnie Kircher's basement throughout 2011 and then mixed at New York's Rare Book Room by Nicolas Vernhes (Dirty Projectors, Deerhunter, Spoon). A press release describes it as a "mangled masterpiece" created with minimal gear, resulting in "an acerbic exercise in both humility and aggression that transcends the humble environment of its creation."
Take a listen to the 11-song collection below. If you're suitably impressed, pre-order a copy directly from Sub Pop and receive a limited-edition bonus seven-inch featuring two non-LP tracks. Also head here to check out all Jaill's upcoming North American tour dates.
We'll leave you with this highly metaphorical and entertaining extract from the press release:
"Traps is pretty, it's moody, it pops. It has the scrappy, vengeful enthusiasm of a puppy stuck under a blanket. It's an adorably grumpy bear just awoken from his long winter's slumber, with a mangy heart rarely found outside of the stuffed animal bin of a Salvation Army. It's an album that expects to be taken seriously goddammit, even though it just puked on the bar."
