Jack White has made headlines in the past for not having a cellphone — and while he's now clarified that he still doesn't have one, he's admitted that he's bound to get one soon.

Speaking with Zane Lowe in an interview for Apple Music, White said, "There's so many things now I can't do anymore, during the pandemic. Like trying to get a COVID test, and I'll pull into a place and it said, 'scan the QR code.' And I'm like, 'Well, I don't have a phone.' They were like, 'Well, you can't get a test.' I'm like, 'Ahh man.' Or picking up my kids from school, you have to call when you pick them up."

Lowe then asked White if he had gotten a smartphone, and White responded, "I don't have one yet, but I think my days are numbered."

He added that his kids, Scarlett (aged 15) and Henry (aged 14), do have cellphones. He explained, "Every parent I know complains about how much their kids use phones, but I had a little epiphany a couple years ago, which was: it's a little strange for me to say, 'Hey, you're on your phone too much, you're on your phone too much,' and then turn to my adult friends who are on it just as much as they are.'"

He also told a story about missing his plane and being unable to call an Uber to take him home from the airport. But still, he said, there's only one time he wishes he had a cellphone: "The only time I really don't like it is in a doctor's office, because I don't have anything to do."

Elsewhere in the interview, he spoke about technology as it relates to his recording progress. He revealed that, while he used to be known for his all-analogue process, the upcoming Fear of the Dawn is very much a digital album made with extensive editing and dozens of tracks of overdubs. He also confirmed past reports that he has unreleased material with Jay-Z in the vault.
