Isolée's genre-defining "Beau Mot Plage" brought the term "microhouse" to the attention of the mainstream in 1998. Now, almost six years after his legendary We Are Monster release helped solidify his reputation as one of the most influential leaders creating minimal house, Isolée (aka Rajko Müller) releases third full-length Well Spent Youth, on DJ Koze's Pampa Records. "Paloma Triste" opens with a peculiar wobbling and then breaks with a downtempo groove, elements of guitar holding it together. "Thirteen Times An Hour" is a minimal dance floor number with funky shuffles. "In Our Country" closes the album with a bopping, atmospheric range of delicately woven baselines and quirky percussion beats that float along. Undoubtedly a master of his craft, Isolée's intuitive ability to combine analogue synths and micro-beats with lovely, obscure grooves continues to highlight his trademark sound and unique brilliance. Well Spent Youth becomes even better the more you listen.
