Van Morrison and Eric Clapton recently threw their efforts into the ring to write the worst song of the COVID-19 era with their anti-lockdown anthem "Stand and Deliver." Today, Iggy Pop is here to prove that you can also write an awful coronavirus song while still respecting the severity of the disease.
The aging rocker has shared a new tune called "Dirty Little Virus," which sees him sing things like "COVID-19 is on the scene" and "She's only 19, but she'll kill ya." His low vocals rest atop some stanky blues guitar licks and, eventually, a cacophony of horns.
Listen to "Dirty Little Virus" below. The song arrived on Bandcamp along with the phrase "CHECK OUT THE NEW MERCH FOR DIRTY LITTLE VIRUS." There's no link anywhere just yet but we're assuming you can buy the COVID-19 mask on the song's single art.
