Ice Cube Makes it Good in the Hood

BY Cam LindsayPublished Mar 14, 2007

First he brought us Straight Outta Compton and Lethal Injection. Then it was Anaconda and Are We There Yet?. Now Ice Cube, aka O’Shea Jackson, has joined forces with cable TV’s A&E network to bring us Good in the Hood.

Cube will act as presenter and executive producer on the show, which introduces a newly reformed gang member, drug dealer or criminal, who will take on the job of helping rehabilitate another person in their past circumstances each week.

Co-executive producer Rob Sharenow told Variety, "One of the most powerful elements in the show is the personal connection of the two subjects. People who are still in thrall to drugs or violence are more apt to respond to someone who has walked in their shoes.” Ice Cube added, "This show is a way to demonstrate what is going on in a positive way in the urban community.”

This isn’t Cube’s first shot at reality television. He previously worked with the F/X network, producing the 2005 program Black.White, an experiment in which black and white families shared a house together in the San Fernando Valley.
