<i>iCarly</i>'s Miranda Cosgrove Accuses Jim O'Rourke of "Brainwashing"

From Rachel Ray's WTF-worthy SXSW showcases to the odd, unsettling cameo of Fucked Up's Ben Cook in a Jonas Brothers movie, there's nothing quite like those rare moments when the insular world of independent music collides with mainstream TV culture. Perhaps the greatest moment yet is a potential feud brewing between iCarly's Miranda Cosgrove and experimental guitarist/songwriter/sound sculptor Jim O'Rourke.

You see, O'Rourke was a music consultant on the 2003 Jack Black comedy School of Rock. In a scene from the film, Cosgrove was asked to sing horribly out of tune. A writer for the UK tabloid the Daily Record [via L.A. Weekly] says O'Rourke nearly scarred her singing career for life.

"Miranda revealed that she couldn't hold a tune after being taught to make an almighty racket tune for a comic movie role," the writer says. "She blames indie veteran Jim O'Rourke for brainwashing her on the set of School of Rock."

O'Rourke's record label Drag City has also joined in the fray with a blog post, where the label writes, "Now that this Cosgrove chick is getting so much attention, she's decided her next move is to become a pop musician. Think those O'Rourke-ian lessons came in handy? Not according to Cosgrove... she even claims he brainwashed her! We always knew O'Rourke was talented, but dang, this takes it to a whole new level! While we can't wait to see who Jim brainwashes next, maybe his records will have as powerful an influence on you, wouldn't that be rad?"

Miranda Cosgrove will drop her debut album, Sparks Fly, in February. After that, we sincerely hope she considers a collaboration with Fenn O'Berg. Just saying...
