A little over two years on from their self-titled debut LP, Ibeyi have lifted the curtain on a follow-up full-length effort.
Titled Ash, the sophomore effort from Lisa-Kaindé and Naomi Díaz arrives September 29 through XL Recordings. Twelve tracks in length, the LP features an array of guests, including Kamasi Washington, Chilly Gonzales, Meshell Ndegeocello and Mala Rodriguez.
The announcement comes alongside a video for the Washington-assisted "Deathless." Directed by Ed Morris, the clip shows small versions of the sisters emerging from one another's stomachs in an endless cycle. You can watch it in the player below.
A press release reveals that "Deathless" was penned by Lisa-Kaindé following her wrongful arrest by French police at 16 years old. She explained the meaning behind the song:
I was writing "Deathless" as an anthem for everybody! For every minority. For everybody that feels that they are nothing, that feels small, that feels not cared about and I want them to listen to our song and for three minutes feel large, powerful, deathless. I have a huge amount of respect for people who fought for, what I think, are my rights today and if we all sing together "we are deathless," they will be living through us into a better world.
