Featuring former members of notable Hamilton heavy bands Varga and Michelin Slave in its ranks, new Hammer heavyweights Hypodust head in an unexpected direction. Instead of playing in a traditional metal style, the quintet have created an 11-song self-released debut disc that is an industrial/metal hybrid. Think Psalm 69-era Ministry mixed with post-Demanufacture-era Fear Factory and a hint of Rob Zombie and youll have a good idea where these guys are coming from. The songwriting is good, the recording and production is impeccable and the performances, especially that of vocalist Julius Butty, are top notch. The only problem is that unfortunately this material sounds dated in todays current metal scene. Had this been released in 1997, these guys could have been the next thing in industrial metal.
