Hunting Announce Debut Album, Premiere New Video

Last fall, Vancouver indie rock outfit Hunting unveiled their new track "Patti" to help tease a as-yet-unannounced album for Nevado Records. A few months on from that reveal, the group have now let loose all the info for their self-titled set.

The band's first full-length drops February 25 and found project founder Bradley Ferguson surrounding himself with a crack team of musicians, including prolific violinist Jesse Zubot (Fond of Tigers, Zubot and Dawson), Paul Rigby (Neko Case, A.C. Newman), drummer John Raham (The Be Good Tanyas, Kelly Joe Phelps), and glockenspiel player Jessica Yliruusi. Apparently Ferguson had begun writing the album on his own in Paris and Berlin with the use of some synthesizers, but the record morphed into a different, more folk-minded direction once he began fleshing out Hunting's sound in a group setting.

"I tried out a couple of the tunes with a full band, instead of just programming beats in my bedroom," Ferguson explained in a statement. "It totally took my brain to a different level. Everybody became such a huge part of the sound."

Of the lyrical content, Ferguson added that "The songs are sad, yet hopeful," and weighed in on relationship-minded material, noting, "There's a certain kind of relief when you're in a breakup. There's something about it that makes me feel alive."

The "lush, cinematic arrangements" of the 10-song set were recorded at Vancouver's Afterlife Studios and also received contributions from Mother Mother's Ryan Guldemond, Dustin Bentall, bassist Darren Parris and banjo/pedal steel player John Ellis.
