This Soul Jazz Records release is a fusing of Afro-jazz percussion beats with elements of hip-hop; not to be confused with a "get your freak on or "shake your groove thang kind of album. This release definitely leans more on the pull out a good book backdrop, easy listening, non-threatening side. A distinctly original album, it is nonetheless a difficult to listen to LP. How does one place a lyric-free, percussion album with very little fluidity? There are some very strong African influences on this album but not in a jungle sense, more so in a tribal, not to entertain but mere expressional sense. It may work for those still living that enlightened beatnik way of life, but otherwise its a little too avant-garde for the rest of us to fully grasp.
