The forever sisterhood that is Honey Jam was on full display at the All Canadian North Stars concert last week. Appearing on the bill with fellow alums Jully Black, Melanie Durant and Michie Mee, Nelly Furtado — who was discovered at their annual showcase in 1997 — reportedly said, "It feels like Honey Jam all over again!"
Now, the time-honoured non-profit youth talent development programme for young Canadian women in music has unveiled the sweet details of its 27th annual showcase concert.
The concert is officially set to take place in person on August 18 at 8 p.m. ET at Toronto's legendary El Mocambo. The showcase will also be available virtually by way of a free livestream through nugs.net.
The members of the 2022 artist development programme — which seeks to empower women aged 14 to 25 across all genres and styles in the music industry — have been working toward this showcase amid mentoring, workshops featuring industry professionals, networking assistance and vocal/performance coaching.
Featuring 15 emerging artists chosen from nationwide auditions, this year's curated class of up-next musicians includes young women hailing from Ontario, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, Quebec and British Columbia. The event is hosted by Angeline Tetteh-Wayoe (CBC's The Block), and features additional sets by the acclaimed DJ MelBoogie — the resident Honey Jam DJ since the program launched in 1995. Since then, the programme has helped launch the careers of countless artists.
Showcase tickets are available now for $20 each here. For further information on the show, visit the Honey Jam website.
