High on Fire Reveal Expanded Reissue of 'The Art of Self Defense'

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Jun 6, 2012

Oakland metal vets High on Fire just released their most recent "bloody, hard-fought triumph" De Vermis Mysteriis in April, but the trio will cast their attention to their past this summer via a re-release of their debut 2000 offering The Art of Self Defense.

A press release confirms that Southern Lord will deliver an expanded version of the record on July 31. The now-defunct Man's Ruin imprint originally released The Art of Self Defense, described as an "audio hail storm of pile-driving riffs, booming rhythms and [Matt] Pike's gruff vocal tirades" as a six-song set. The upcoming deluxe edition, meanwhile, will also include tracks from a 2001 seven-inch, as well as High on Fire's demo tape from 1999.

You can check the tracklisting down below and the revamped cover art above.

All of the recordings were remastered by Brad Boatright (Sleep, Noothgrush, OFF!), and the package will also include a hefty 48-page booklet.
