Hear an Alternate Version of the Tragically Hip's "Fiddler's Green"

A bushel of 'Road Apples' rarities arrives in October

Earlier this week, the Tragically Hip revealed the biggest piece of their Road Apples anniversary celebrations to date, and a first rarity from the expanded reissue package has arrived.

An alternate, early take of "Fiddler's Green" that features vocals from Gord Downie and acoustic guitar from Rob Baker can be heard below.

One of Road Apples' slower inclusions, "Fiddler's Green" was written in memory of Downie's nephew, who passed away of a heart condition. Notably, the song was not included in a Hip setlist until 2006.

The alternate take of "Fiddler's Green" will appear on Hoof-Hearted, a collection of demos, outtakes & alternate versions that will arrive as part of the deluxe anniversary reissue of Road Apples on October 15.

Of course, the massive reissue follows May's rarities EP Saskadelphia. Find out where Road Apples ranks in Exclaim!'s Essential Guide to the Tragically Hip.

Earlier this year, the Tragically Hip's surviving members performed with Feist at the Juno Awards. More recently, the band landed an entry in Exclaim!'s list of the 27 Best Songs About Toronto.
