One year after debut album Perennial's release, Montreal singer-songwriter Hanorah announced a new EP, Time Waits for No Woman, out on October 13 via Ensoul Records. Along with the announcement, she has also released the EP's title track.
The artist says "Time Waits for No Woman" is her response to the portrayal of young women in the public eye by the media — in particular, drawing inspiration from the lives and narratives of the late Amy Winehouse and Janis Joplin. "The music industry chews up and spits out young women like we're nothing," Hanorah shared in a press release.
She elaborated:
The lyrics follow a phone call with someone in the industry I really respected, who was trying to tell me to stay in a bad deal and give them what they wanted because I could potentially never have another opportunity like that again. The subtext was that I was a promising young woman and that my value would only decrease with time, that no one would pretend to care about what I had to say, because life for female artists is supposed to end in a cosmic explosion, or a public display of insanity, at 30.
Hanorah will also be hitting the road this fall for a brief North American tour, starting in Lavaltrie, QC, before making her way to Toronto in mid-November, and finishing off in Los Angeles on November 29.
