Cousins Jaime Hanna and Jonathan McEuen have been hanging out and playing with each other for more than 20 years; they’ve also been hanging around the music industry machine for just as long. You see, the pair are the sons of Nitty Gritty Dirt Band founding members Jeff Hanna and John McEuen and they had never considered a musical career until their dads invited them to join them on 2001’s Will the Circle Be Unbroken III. Hanna-McEuen is the duo’s country debut, which veers more to mainstream Nashville. "Something Like a Broken Heart” has all the elements of a country radio hit with its catchy chorus, two-part harmonies that recall such famous country duos as the Louvin Brothers, and the weepy, pedal steel guitar. "End of Me,” is a typical country-rock break-up song that echoes early Johnny Cash and blames fate for the narrator’s heartbreak as he bemoans, "This destiny is gonna be the end of me.” While this pair still have a ways to go to reach the songwriting success and musical legacy of their fathers, this disc shows a talented duo progressing one step closer.
