In our annual Hangout Handbook, Exclaim! asks some of our favourite artists to discuss their favourite hometown haunts. Here, Fortunate Ones outline their "top choices for a perfect day in St. John's."
Enjoy a serene sunrise at Signal Hill or Cape Spear. Hopefully some icebergs and/or whales will make an appearance. Be one with the ocean!
Have some brunch at Mallard Cottage (8 Barrows Rd.) Oh snap! Duane Andrews and Aaron Collis are playing some delightful tunes in the corner.
Hike a section of the East Coast Trail – Petty Harbour or Sugar Loaf Path are our top spots.
Cool off with some Moo Moo's Ice Cream (88 Kings Rd.) under the shade of a tall tree in Bannerman Park.
Enjoy a cocktail on the patio of the Murray Premises Hotel (5 Beck's Cove). Feels like you're somewhere in the Caribbean!
Feast on the best fish tacos, salt and pepper squid and guacamole for supper at Adelaide Oyster House (334 Water St.). Then, grab some desert down the street at The Merchant Tavern (291 Water St.)
Grab a pint of delicious locally brewed beer at Yellowbelly Brewery (288 Water St.). Wexford Wheat is the bomb. (Secret hint: head downstairs to the "Underbelly" — their cool underground speakeasy!)
Finally, take in some music at the Ship (265 Duckworth St.) or Erin's Pub (186 Water St.).
Fortunate Ones are currently touring Canada. Their upcoming EP, All Will Be Well, is due on November 4.
